Abstract
This single-group clinical trial evaluated the effects of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen on signs of facial aging over 60 days. Thirty-five female participants aged 30-55 used the Ultra Cleanse & Revive Face Scrub two times a week, and the Anti-Age & Insane Glow Day Balm, the Ultra Potent Dark Circles & Eye Bag Remover, and the Magic Wrinkle Eraser Night Balm daily. Participants completed questionnaires at Baseline, Day 20, Day 40, and Day 60, and provided self-taken photographs of their face for dermatologist grading at Baseline and Day 60. By Day 60, all ten evaluated skin parameters showed significant improvement, including skin hydration, skin elasticity, facial wrinkle appearance, and overall skin health. Expert skin grading supported these findings, with over 70% of participants showing improvements in skin brightness, pigmentation, overall skin health, and signs of aging. Participant perception data revealed strong satisfaction, with 15 of 16 product-related statements receiving ≥50% agreement by Day 60, including improvements in skin glow, hydration, youthfulness, and smoothness. These results suggest that the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen is effective in improving skin hydration, signs of facial aging, and overall skin health. Further large-scale, controlled studies are recommended to validate and expand on these outcomes.
1. Introduction
Our skin forms the barrier between our bodies and the external environment. As such, it is susceptible to both external and internal factors, both of which contribute to skin aging¹. Internal factors, such as our genetics, contribute to aging by reducing collagen synthesis² and skin elasticity³, resulting in a loss of structural support to the skin and leading to skin thinning and fine wrinkles⁴. Oxidative stress may be a key factor in this by contributing to collagen and elastin degradation⁵. Extrinsic factors, such as UV exposure or smoking, exacerbate the natural aging processes, contributing further to oxidative stress and the loss of collagen and elastin, resulting in deep wrinkles and rough skin texture⁶.
An effective skin routine can contribute to protecting the skin against signs of aging, resulting in the long-term maintenance of plump, smooth, and healthy skin. With this in mind, Frøya Organics developed their Anti-Aging skin routine, comprising a skin scrub and several balms produced using natural ingredients that contribute to improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin texture.
Rosa damascena (Rose flour) forms a key ingredient in the Ultra Cleanse & Revive Face Scrub. Rosa damascena contains polyphenols and flavonoids, which show strong antioxidant properties⁷. In addition, inhibitory effects on elastase and collagenase (enzymes which break down elastin and collagen, respectively) have been demonstrated, contributing to the preservation of collagen and elastin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles⁸.
Carthamus tinctorius seed oil (thistle oil) can be found in the Anti-Age & Insane Glow Day, Ultra Potent Dark Circles & Eye Bag Remover, and Magic Wrinkle Eraser Night balms. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in addition to inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1; a collagenase), resulting in a reduction in collagen degradation and anti-wrinkle effects, including in UV-induced skin aging⁹,¹⁰.
Hippophae rhamnoides berry oil (sea buckthorn oil) is found in the Anti-Age & Insane Glow Day Balm. It contains important active ingredients, including antioxidants, vitamin C, and fatty acids, which contribute to improving skin health¹¹. It also contributes to reducing the effects of UV damage by suppressing MMP-1 activity¹².
Punica granatum oil (pomegranate oil) is found in the Ultra Potent Dark Circles & Eye Bag Remover. It is rich in polyphenol compounds, resulting in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects¹³, and has an inhibitory effect on elastases and collagenases¹⁴. Punica granatum has been shown to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmented spots, fine lines, and crow's feet¹⁵,¹⁶.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen on signs of skin aging over 60 days.
2. Methods
2.1. Participants
A total of 35 female participants aged 30-55 were recruited for this study. All participants reported concerns with fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and reduced elasticity, and satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria outlined in the study protocol.
2.2. Study Design and Intervention Procedure
This was a virtual single-group clinical trial that lasted for 60 days. Consent forms describing the study process, instructions, evaluation methods, and bill of rights were provided to participants before study onboarding. Following the consent process, participants completed the Baseline questionnaire and took a Baseline photograph of their whole face. Participants were asked to use the the Ultra Cleanse & Revive Face Scrub two times a week to scrub the face, the Anti-Age & Insane Glow Day Balm by applying a thin layer to the face daily in the morning, the Ultra Potent Dark Circles & Eye Bag Remover around the eyes daily before going to bed, and the Magic Wrinkle Eraser Night Balm daily by applying a layer over the face before going to bed. Further questionnaires were completed on Day 20, Day 40, and Day 60. Further photographs were provided by participants on Day 60, which underwent expert grading by a dermatologist.
2.3. Expert Skin Grading
To perform expert skin grading, participants provided self-taken photos of their whole face and any areas of concern. A dermatologist then analyzed these images and determined whether there was an improvement from Baseline. The parameters analyzed were overall skin health, fine lines/wrinkles, pigmentation, dryness, signs of aging, brightness, breakout scars, and blemishes/blackheads/whiteheads. These parameters were rated as either improved or not improved when compared to the Baseline photos.
2.4. Data Analysis and Statistics
Data from the questionnaires were collected using a textual 5-point Likert scale for each question. The textual Likert data was transformed into numerical values of 1-5, where 1 represented the worst outcome, and 5 represented the best outcome.
Data were checked for normality using the Pearson test depending on the number of values being analyzed. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA test with Dunnnett's multiple comparisons test. Statistical analyses were performed in GraphPad Prism 10.5, and the significance level was set at 0.05.
Expert skin grading for skin parameters was presented as the percentage of participants that the dermatologist classified as having improved. This data was not statistically analyzed. For some participants, some skin parameters could not be assessed from the provided photographs and were therefore removed from the analysis. Two participants were removed from the fine lines/wrinkles analysis, one participant was removed from the pigmentation analysis, 24 participants were removed from the breakout scar analysis, and 17 participants were removed from the blemishes/blackheads/whiteheads analysis.
For product-specific questions not evaluated at Baseline, results were presented as the percentage of subjects reporting each answer.
Included in the questionnaires was a quality check question to assess participant engagement. Participants who did not answer "Agree" or "Strongly Agree" to the question were excluded from all questionnaire analyses at that time point.
3. Results
3.1. Impact of the Test Product on Skin Aging, Health, and Hydration
The effect of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen on ten skin aging, health, and hydration parameters was evaluated at Baseline, Day 20, Day 40, and Day 60.
By Day 20, all ten parameters were significantly improved from the Baseline, including improvements in overall skin youthfulness, skin elasticity, appearance of facial wrinkles, dark circles, and age spots, evenness of skin tone, overall skin health, skin smoothness, confidence in skin appearance, and skin hydration (Table 1, Figure 1). The most notable improvement was a 51.48% increase in the skin hydration score.
By Day 40, this was maintained with all ten parameters significantly improving from the Baseline (Table 1, Figure 1). The skin hydration score continued to be the most notable improvement, with a 75.11% increase. Other notable improvements included a 69.67% increase in the confidence in the skin appearance score, a 49.81% increase in the overall skin youthfulness score, and a 44.62% increase in the skin elasticity score (Table 1, Figure 1).
By Day 60, this was maintained, with all ten parameters significantly improving from the Baseline. (Table 1, Figure 1). The skin hydration score remained the most notable improvement, with a 75.11% increase. Other notable improvements included a 72.99% increase in the confidence in skin appearance score, a 48.95% increase in the appearance of facial dark circles, and a 44.36% increase in the overall skin youthfulness score (Table 1, Figure 1).
3.2. Evaluation of Expert Skin Grading
Photos of the skin were provided by participants at Baseline and Day 60. The dermatologist reviewed the Baseline and Day 60 photos and graded them on eight parameters: overall skin health, fine lines/wrinkles, pigmentation, dryness, signs of aging, brightness, breakout scars, and blemishes/blackheads/whiteheads.
The dermatologist classified the participant's skin as having improved from the Baseline or not by Day 60 (Table 2).
By Day 60, 82.35% of participants showed an improvement from Baseline in overall skin health, 59.38% in fine lines/wrinkles, 84.85% in pigmentation, 44.12% in dryness, 73.53% in signs of aging, 88.24% in brightness, 10.00% in breakout scars, and 29.41% in blemishes/blackheads/whiteheads (Table 2).
3.3. Participants' Perception of the Test Product and The Impact on Skin Aging, Health, and Hydration
Participants were asked to respond to questions on Day 20, Day 40, and Day 60, which provided insight into their perceptions of the test product. They responded to product evaluation questions with a "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree" scale. The "strongly agree" and "agree" responses were combined into a single "combined agree" result to evaluate the overall participant perception.
On Day 20, 8 of the 13 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement (Table 3). These included 'since using the test product, my skin looks younger' (55.88%), 'since using the test product, my skin feels more elastic' (50.00%), 'since using the test product, my skin feels more hydrated' (79.41%), 'since using the test product, my skin tone is more even' (55.88%), 'since using the test product, my skin looks more glowing' (85.29%), 'since using the test product, I have more confidence' (50.00%), 'since using the test product, my skin feels healthier' (76.47%), 'since using the test product, my skin feels smoother' (79.41%) (Table 3).
On Day 40, 10 of the 13 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement, including 'since using the test product, I have fewer dark circles' (63.64%) and 'since using the test product, I feel more attractive' (72.73%). All other parameters from Day 20 were maintained.
On Day 60, 15 of the 16 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement, including 'since using the test product, I have fewer wrinkles' (52.94%) and 'since using the test product, I have fewer age spots' (55.88%). All other parameters from Day 40 were maintained. Also by Day 60, 88.24% of participants agreed that they would like to continue using this product, and 82.35% agreed that they would recommend this product to their family and friends.
At Day 60, four participants reported breakouts or clogged pores at the beginning of using the product, one participant reported difficulty with the product absorbing into the skin and the exfoliant feeling abrasive, one participant experienced small bumps and pimples on the jawline and lower cheeks, and one participant experienced facial dryness.

4. Discussion
This study evaluated the efficacy of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen in addressing facial skin aging over eight weeks, using a combination of participant-reported outcomes, expert dermatologist grading, and standardized skin parameter assessments.
Findings from the skin parameter evaluations demonstrated steady and significant improvements across a broad range of measures. Improvements in all ten parameters were observed as early as Day 20, with the most notable early effect being improved skin hydration. By Day 60, all ten parameters continued to significantly improve, including enhanced skin hydration, skin elasticity, facial wrinkle appearance, and overall skin health. These outcomes suggest that the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen offers a progressive, cumulative benefit for skin aging, health, and hydration.
Expert skin grading further supported these improvements, with over 70% of participants showing improvements in skin brightness, pigmentation, overall skin health, and signs of aging by the end of the study. While changes in fine lines/wrinkles were more modest, the improvements observed suggest a meaningful enhancement in skin quality.
Participant perception data aligned closely with these findings, with early improvements in skin smoothness, health, and hydration reported by Day 20. By Day 60, most participants agreed that their skin appeared younger, more hydrated, glowing, healthier, and smoother. These self-reported outcomes highlight the visible changes and the experiential benefits users perceived throughout the trial.
Overall, the results support the potential of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen as an effective solution for improving multiple signs of facial skin aging. The product was well-tolerated and showed both subjective and objective benefits.
5. Conclusion
The findings of this study highlight the efficacy of the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen in improving facial skin health and reducing visible signs of aging over eight weeks. Significant improvements were seen in key areas such as skin hydration, elasticity, facial wrinkle appearance, and overall skin health, with the most notable enhancement being enhanced skin hydration. Expert skin grading supported these outcomes, particularly in skin brightness, pigmentation, overall skin health, and signs of aging. Participant feedback reflected strong satisfaction with the product, including perceived improvements in skin glow, hydration, youthfulness, and smoothness. Additionally, over 80% of participants agreed that they would like to continue using the test products and would recommend them to their family and friends. These results suggest that the Frøya Organics multi-product skincare regimen is an effective, well-tolerated skincare solution for individuals seeking to improve skin hydration, signs of facial aging, and overall skin health concerns. Further research with a larger population could help validate and expand upon these promising findings.
